Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 22, 2026

RentVoy Inc. ("RentVoy", "we", "us") operates rentvoy.ca, a rental marketplace connecting Canadian landlords and renters. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

Information we collect

Account information

When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and (optionally) phone number. Authentication is provided by our service provider Clerk; if you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from your Google account.

Landlord listing information

Landlords provide property details (address, rent, features, photos) and contact information that is published with their listings. Optional business profile details (company name, phone, logo) are displayed publicly on listings.

Identity verification

Before a landlord's listings go live, we require identity verification, which is performed by our service provider Plaid. During verification, Plaid collects information from you such as your name, date of birth, address, and images of your government ID. RentVoy never receives or stores your ID documents or photos— Plaid processes them and we store only the verification outcome (for example, "verified") and a session reference. Plaid's handling of your information is described in the Plaid End User Privacy Policy.

Renter information

When renters inquire about a listing, we collect the details they choose to provide, such as move-in date, income range, employment status, and pet information, and share them with the listing's landlord to pre-qualify the inquiry. Renters using our "renter needs" matching or renter score tools provide the information requested by those forms.

Payments

Payments for listing credits and verification credits are processed by Stripe. RentVoy never sees or stores your full card number; we keep transaction records (amount, date, what was purchased) linked to your account.

Public records

To power Rentvoy Verified trust reports, we cross-reference listing addresses against City of Edmonton open data (for example, development permits, bylaw complaint counts, and area safety statistics). This data concerns properties, not people.

Technical information

We collect standard log and device information to run and secure the service. We use Plausible, a cookie-free, privacy-focused analytics tool that does not track you across sites, and Sentry for error monitoring. Our application is hosted on Vercel and Convex, and listing photos are stored on Vercel Blob storage.

How we use your information

  • To operate the marketplace: publish listings, deliver renter inquiries to landlords, and facilitate communication between parties.
  • To verify landlord identity before listings are published, deterring fraudulent listings and protecting renters.
  • To process payments and maintain purchase records.
  • To send transactional email and SMS (inquiry notifications, listing expiry reminders, phone verification) through our providers Resend and Twilio.
  • To generate listing trust reports from public records.
  • To secure, debug, and improve the service.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the service providers that make the platform work, each bound to use it solely to provide their service to us: Clerk (authentication), Plaid (identity verification), Stripe (payments), Twilio (SMS), Resend (email), Google Maps (address geocoding and maps), Plausible (analytics), Sentry (error monitoring), and Vercel/Convex (hosting and data storage). Information you include in a listing or an inquiry is shared with the other party to your transaction. We may disclose information where required by law.

Retention

We keep your information while your account is active and as needed for legal, accounting, or dispute purposes afterwards. Identity verification outcomes are retained while you hold an account so you don't need to re-verify; the underlying documents are retained by Plaid under its policy, not by us.

Your choices and rights

You may access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information, and withdraw consent where it applies, by emailing hello@rentvoy.ca. You can archive or delete your listings at any time from your dashboard. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access to production systems is limited to those who need it, and sensitive operations (payments, identity verification) are delegated to specialized, audited providers so that high-risk data never touches our servers.

Changes

We will post any changes to this policy on this page and update the date above. Material changes will be announced to account holders by email.
